Big news for fellow Redshift users who needed color control inside of volumes among other volumetric improvements.
"Hey guys,
One of the most-often-requested features for our volume rendering is to allow colored transmission. Well… we’re happy to say that we’ve been making some progress on that front, as you can see in the image below! grin
The image is showing a color ramp for absorption (instead of the previous monochrome one). I’ve scaled the density (in the remap range) to ensure that the density field is covering the entire range of the color ramp. The most dense parts of the bunny are red, medium density is green and the least dense (the “wisps”) are blue.
The colors for the transmission can be a bit weird. For example if you use completely primary colors (like a “pure” green color), you might get somewhat unexpected results. So “pastel” colors (colors that don’t have extremely low R or G or B values) will work best here.
Once this feature is tested and released (in one of the next 2-3 releases), we’ll proceed to the other often-requested volume rendering improvements which are:
1) The ability to use color channels for scattering (and possibly absorption too)
2) Add some noise facilities
